Welcome to the Motel California is a celebration of the art of the matchbooks, handed out at the 'mom and pop' motels of the 1950s and 60s. These iconic motels thrived in the postwar heyday of the automobile as 'tin can tourists 'headed out on highways such as route 66 to discover the vastness of America. Signage was everything and these wonderful designs were replicated on matchbooks, freely available at the bar, rooms and reception desks. Today, most of these iconic motels have vanished, but we are still able to glimpse this bygone era through their matchbooks which have survived, and are now avidly collected. Printed in an edition of 1250 copies, of which there are 100 specials and 8 deluxe editions.

We very much hope you love the items you order, and while returns are rare, we understand that sometimes things may not be quite the right fit for your needs. Online orders are eligible for a full refund to the original payment method (excluding shipping fees, both directions) -- To qualify, products MUST be returned within 10 days after the date of delivery, and must be unused, in unopened, original packaging and in original condition with any associated tags attached. Paper items such as journals and notebooks must not show creases, damage or signs of use. Clothing must be unworn, unwashed, with tags, and in original condition.
