Highlights:
-
Literary Analysis, Conversation, Fun and Games (and a party, of course!): Students will engage in thoughtful discussions about a book. The book of study will be The Adventures of Miss Petitfour by Anne Michaels, analyzing its plot, characters, and underlying themes. Through guided conversations, they will deepen their understanding of the text and develop critical thinking skills while also having tons of fun exploring tales that celebrate small pleasures (especially the edible kind!) Students will solve mysteries and puzzles, broaden their skills with creative writing prompts, apply their learnings to hands-on art and crafts project, and ultimately plan and celebrate with a book party!
-
Historical Context: Each book in our Literary Explorers course study will serve as a window into different historical periods, allowing students to explore the cultural, social, and artistic landscapes of the time. As we open ourselves up to a broader view, students will gain insights into how literature reflects and influences historical events.
- Grammar and Language Games: Students will hone their grammar skills through interactive exercises and games. From punctuation challenges to word puzzles and copywork of inspirational quotes and book passages, learning grammar will become fun and engaging.
- Creative Writing Workshops: Students will unleash their imagination through creative writing exercises inspired by each book. From character sketches to alternate endings or spinoff ideas, they will be presented with opportunities to express their creativity and develop their storytelling abilities. Does your child love graphic novels? Ours sure do! Students will be encouraged to express their creativity through this much-loved literary art form.
- Arts and Crafts: Together, we'll bring each book to life through hands-on arts and crafts projects! From creating visual representations of key scenes to crafting props and artifacts from the story, students will explore their artistic talents while deepening their understanding of a book's themes.
- Book Party Celebration: As we prepare to wrap up study of each book, students will plan and participate in a lively, art-filled book party! They will have the opportunity to showcase their understanding of the book through presentations, skits, creative displays, food and fun!
